Welcome to Beckley and Southern West Virginia!!

On behalf of the City of Beckley, I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to our area. I hope you have the time to enjoy the many attractions for which we are famous.

Beckley serves as the hub of Southern West Virginia, with a trade area of over 200,000 people. Interstate 77, I-64, and US-19 provide easy north-south and east-west access to our city, positioning us as the medical, educational, and service center of Southern West Virginia.

From Beckley, you are within minutes of whitewater rafting on the oldest river in North America - the New River. The river is spanned by the famous New River Gorge Bridge, which is the longest single-span arch bridge in the northern hemisphere.

Winterplace Ski Resort, located only 15 miles from downtown, offers outstanding skiing to residents of West Virginia and the Southeastern United States.

The City offers guided trips through our Exhibition Mine, which depicts coal mining before the modernization of the coal industry. The Mine is located in the New River Park Complex, which also offers swimming, a waterslide, tennis, horseshoe pits, a covered shelter, a fitness trail, and miniature golf.

The Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia is located adjacent to the Park and boasts a planetarium, as well as offering exhibits for young and old alike.
Theatre West Virginia, our resident theatre group, resides during the summer months at Grandview. "Honey in the Rock" portrays the birth of the State of West Virginia, while "Hatfields and McCoys" presents the blood feud between two famous mountain families.

"Wildwood", the famous home of Beckley's founder, General Alfred Beckley, is an outstanding example of our Civil War History.

Our motel facilities provide exceptional accommodations, and virtually every culinary taste can be satisfied in our array of dining establishments.

Welcome to Beckley!

Mayor Emmett S. Pugh, III
