I am a life long resident of Beckley and love our city. I attended school at Crescent Elementary, Park Junior High, Woodrow Wilson High School and Concord College. I own and operate our 70 year old family business, Best Fabric & Foam, located in the Uptown area.
I have been married to my wife, Teresa, for nearly 35 years. We raised both our children, Max and Kate, here. They participated in almost every activity Beckley had to offer our youth. Max has given us our first grandchild. In my spare time I enjoy volunteering.
I've been President of the Raleigh County Historical Society since 2008 and helped begin Founder's Day at the Wildwood House Museum. I'm President of Temple Beth el (15 years) and have organized the Holocaust Day Of Remembrance at our local University (now the University of Charleston - Beckley) since 1995. As an active member of Beckley Masonic Lodge 95, I have served as Treasurer and am a life member of the Scottish Rite of Charleston. I'm a member of the Moose Club #1606. While my children played Little League baseball and softball, I was a Manager for 12 years where I managed 3 All Star teams (won the WV State Little League Girls Senior League Division in 2001) and was the first recipient of the Pat Swift Coaching Award. Because of my love of golf I was a First Tee volunteer for 4 years. I've served as a board member at the Salvation Army and served on the Advisory Committee for the Beckley Area Foundation. When the Piney Creek Trail Committee (developing a hiking/biking trail from the Paul Cline Soccer Complex to the New River) formed, I immediately joined.
Through Council, I am on the Comprehensive Plan Committee and the New River Park Recreational Committee. Recently I've become chairman of a newly created committee dealing with the preservation of the Beckley Mill and waterfall on Piney Creek, developement of a trail and possible reclaimation of the old Dump area. I am very invested in Beckley and am here for you.
