Beckley’s 29th Annual Friday in the Park series will open this Friday, May 17. The concert series will be held weekly from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., through August 30, weather permitting, at Word Park on Neville Street. Food vendors will offer lunch items for sale.

Opening day on May 17 will feature Shayar, who performs reggae music. On May 24, the event will open with the Greater Beckley Christian School at 11:30 am, followed by Christian music by David Cook from noon to 1 pm. On May 31, Patricia Smith of Abundance Blessings Music will open the show, followed by Rick Lilly. The Fridays during the month of May are included as part of the Rhododendron Festival.

A variety of musical styles will be presented during the season. DJs from local radio stations will emcee the concerts.

Also, new this year, First Fridays at Five will take place on the first Friday of June, July and August from 5-7 pm at Word Park. First Fridays will feature music and vendors. For more event details visit www.beckley.org or “Beckley Events” on Facebook.
