The Beckley Events Committee is now accepting vendor booth applications for several upcoming events including the Taste of Beckley during the August Appalachian Festival and Beckley’s Kids Classic Festival in September.

Taste of Beckley will be held on Saturday, August 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Beckley. Part of the Appalachian Festival, Taste is a festive block party
that features local food vendors and entertainment including the New River Jazz Band and The Lilly Mountaineers. Local restaurants and organizations are invited to set up a booth and sell samples of cuisine. It is recommended that items are priced at a discount so that attendees have an opportunity to sample several dishes. According to Jill Moorefield, “It is a great way to reach hundreds, promote your establishment, and if you are judged as the best in any of the competition categories, you’ll receive a certificate to display.” Competition categories include best appetizer, entrée, sandwich, dessert, most attractive booth, and the Peoples’ Choice. Vendors need to be registered by August 10 and follow Health Department rules.

Beckley’s annual Kids Classic Festival is scheduled September 1– 9. Baby- related vendors are invited to set-up at the Baby Fair held during Friday in the Park on September 7. The Kids Street Fair features booths with information, food and games for children on Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Bands, sports teams, churches, and youth-related groups and businesses are invited to be in the 11 a.m. parade or set-up a booth, offer a demonstration, or sponsor the festival or a game at the United arcade. This year’s theme is character-building with the tagline: “You don’t have to be a character to have character.” The theme ties into the Youth Museum’s “Clifford the Big Red Dog exhibit.

Moorefield says, “Taste and the Kids Festival have become traditions in our community and we are excited to see the community come together to celebrate. People are already requesting Chili Night information as well. We will begin accepting the Chili Night applications in August – the registration form for the October 6 event will be available on the city’s website around August 10.”
