Beckley’s Veterans Parade – November 11 at 11:00 am

Hosted by the American Legion Post 32, City of Beckley, and Visit WV

Some of the organizing committee members:  Bill Miller (American Legion), Lisa Strader (Visit WV), Myra Harper (McDonalds), Beth Daniels (Raleigh County Cancer Center), Lulibeth Fuentes (Stewards Placement), Jill Moorefield (Beckley Events parade volunteers), Tim Fama (SSHS – band rep) and others – Community members who want to honor our veterans and the American Legion by helping to organize the annual parade.

Notes:  We are getting lots of parade entries – Today (Nov. 7) is the deadline to register – details/form at

Parade Line-up locations:

Park Middle School, Park Ave – Veterans in individual vehicles, floats, and vehicles representing commercial, veteran & other organizations

City National Bank, Park Ave – Classic cars; some of the emergency vehicles

3rd Ave / McManus Trail lot – Jeep Clubs

Beckley Intermodal Gateway – Military Jeeps, walking units, bands

Judges Viewing Stage – in front of First Baptist Church on Neville Street

Please note these NEW activities this year:

Honor & Memory Walk – takes place at the end of the parade – the public is encouraged to participate – you can fall in behind the banner – feel free to bring a photo, poster or mementos of the veteran you wish to honor.

School band performances at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza following the parade (noon-1 pm) – enjoy music from the halftime performances of Park Middle School, Woodrow Wilson High School and Shady Spring High School, followed by flag retirement by the Girl Scouts

Schedule of activities:

9:00 am – 10:45 am – Parade line-up at various locations

11:00 am – Parade begins – Route – from Park Ave to 3rd Ave to Neville Street onto Heber Street and Main Street, turn onto Fayette Street beside the courthouse and then onto Prince Street, ends at Leslie C. Gates Place

Approximately 11:40 am as Memory/Honor Walk arrives on Main Street – Prayer by Chaplin Mac Scaggs at Raleigh County Courthouse steps

At the Beckley Intermodal Gateway (approximate times depending on parade timing):

12:00 pm – Parade awards

12:05 pm – Park Middle School Band

12:15 pm – WWHS Band

12:30 pm – SSHS Band

12:45 pm – Girl Scout flag retirement (formally at Shoemaker Square)

Other:  12:30 – 1:30 pm – Luncheon at American Legion Post 32 on Kanawha St. for members

2:00 pm – Veterans Museum event on Harper Road – includes the Beckley-Stratton Middle School choir
