Combined Veterans and Christmas Parade set for Saturday, December 3, in downtown Beckley!

Beckley’s combined parade on Saturday will be one of the biggest parades in years.  Join us on Saturday at 11 am to see a variety of Veterans and Christmas entries. More than 30 floats, 7 bands, and numerous other entries have registered for the parade (nearly 100 units total).

A few notes about the parade:

Parade Lineup for Floats & Vehicles – 9:00-10:40 – Park Ave near Park Middle School  (Tentative lineup locations for categories: veterans in front of school, organizations/schools in parking lot area by stadium, churches along the fence line, businesses in street in front of City National Bank, Santa’ sleigh and Jan Care in lot in front of bank, classic cars on Granville Ave, emergency vehicles in lot on corner of Woodlawn and Park) – traffic will be detoured around the area – it will be congested.

Parade Lineup for military vehicles – 9:30-10:00 – at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway top level parking off Neville Street

Parade Lineup for bands and walking units – 10:00-10:40 at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza

Jeep Club will line up along 1st Street (across from trail lot) and a horse entry in 3rd Ave lot near McManus Trail Art Park

Vendors who plan to setup beside Word Park:  Holy O’s (hot cocoa, coffee, mini donuts), The Cake Box (cupcakes & more), DeeZ EatZ (food), Frontier

Booth setup on Main Street near courthouse: Beckley Presbyterian Church (cookies)

Businesses Open Downtown: Coffee on Main (coffee and cocoa on Main Street); Tickety Boo Mercantile, International Grocer, and the Axe Hole on Neville Street

Parade activities:

Pre-parade – Susan Ketron will sing a couple of Christmas songs on the Judges’ Stand before the parade arrives on Neville Street. Lola Riser will be the parade emcee.

The parade begins at 11 am. The Grand Marshal leading the parade will be Eddie Cochran representing the Veterans.

Parade route notes:  Floats and vehicles leave Park Ave to 3rd Ave to Neville Street, (bands and walking groups inserted at BIG), past the judges’ stage at First Baptist. At the end of Neville, parade will turn left on Heber to Main Street. Then, the parade will turn from Main Street to Fayette Street between the Courthouse and United Bank, (Instead of blocking S Kanawha Street which will be open for safety reasons and to allow access for Police, Fire or EMS assistance). From Fayette, turning onto Prince Street and ending around Leslie C. Gates Place. Intersections will be shut down at 10:50 am and remain closed for approximately 15 minutes after the last parade participant goes by Leslie C Gates. Only foot traffic will be able to turn up Leslie C Gates at the conclusion of the parade. Parade floats and other participants may want to turn onto Naff Lane to go back to 3rd Avenue area.

After the parade: Parade Awards will be presented in the area beside the Judges Stage & First Baptist Church on Neville Street; Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on the sleigh in that area for a little while for Selfies with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Sleigh.  Tickety Boo Mercantile having an Open House.
