Tim Berry is a retired police officer from the City of Beckley, where he worked 1978 – 1993. He has served the citizens of Beckley and Raleigh County since 1978. He opened the first tanning salon in Beckley with partner Brian Blake in 1984. He, along with partner Gray McAlister, constructed and operated U Putt N Bat and Family Raceway Go-Kart and Bumper Boats 1988-1994. Tim also served on the local Board of Directors for the Beckley Raleigh County American Red Cross 1985-1987 and Soldiers Memorial Theatre.
Tim was elected to Beckley Common Council as the Ward 4 representative in 1995 and served three four year terms, ending in 2007. Governor Bob Wise appointed him Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Public Defender Corporation in 2003 and was re-appointed by Governor Joe Manchin in 2007. He founded the Beckley Babes A.S.A. Softball Organization in 1991. He has coached softball and volleyball in the public school system since 1988. He received Coalfield Conference “Coach of the Year” honors for Volleyball in 2002, after coaching Shady Spring High School to the State Championship in 2002.
Mountain State University recruited him to start the Women’s Softball Program in 1996 and also became Head Volleyball Coach, serving from 1996 until 2008. MSU Women’s Volleyball won the KIAC Conference title in 2007 earning Coach Berry “KIAC Coach of the Year” honors while MSU Softball won the Regular Season Champion honors in 2008. He supervised the community project building the Woodrow Wilson High School Softball Complex in 1996. Warren Williams Softball Stadium was renovated also 1999 – 2007 with help from Tim and his many friends in business from the Beckley area.
Tim Berry is currently a licensed real estate agent with Zaferatos Real Estate, where the Beckley Board of Realtors named him 2010 “Rookie of the Year”, selling over $ 1.1 million dollars in real estate in his 1st year as a Realtor. Tim is also an Associate Agent with Nationwide Insurance working for the Terry Pennington Agency, both of which are Beckley businesses. He is also President of the West Virginia Women’s Athletic Development Company, Inc which he founded in 2009. Tim R. Berry resides on Johnstown Road with his wife of 34 years, Mary. They have two daughters, Keri and Amber, and one grandson, Brayden. Tim was born in Leon, Kentucky but moved with his family to Beckley in 1964. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1977. He graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy in 1979. Tim is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Local Moose Lodge 1606. He is a member of the National Association REALTORS and the West Virginia Real Estate Association.
