MAYOR BILL O’BRIEN

191x259A Life-long resident of Beckley, William A. “Bill” O’Brien is married to his wife of 40 years, Lynn.  The O’Brien’s have one son, Jay, and four grandchildren.  The O’Brien’s are members of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church.

Mayor O’Brien graduated from Marshall University in 1969 with a Bachelor’s Degree in U.S. History and has previously been an Adjunct Professor at the College of West Virginia and New River Community and Technical College.  His professional career includes: Manager, Owner/Operator of Personality Stations, Inc., Consultant for First Media Radio (WJLS AM/FM), and “Voice” of the Flying Eagles from 1969 to 2013.  He also served as President of the West Virginia Broadcasters Association.

Mayor O’Brien’s long-time community involvement currently includes memebership on the Board of Directors of the Beckley Area Foundation as well as the West Virginia Broadcasters Education Foundation.  He has been emcee for several yearly events.

Among awards received by Mayor O’Brien include West Virginia Boardcasters Hall of Fame, Woodrow Wilson High School Sports Hall of Fame, and the 1994 West Virginia Broadcasters Association Broadcaster of the Year.
