Some special events to look forward during the month of July in Beckley include:

Beckley’s annual July 4th Fireworks Show will take place on Thursday at 9:30 pm in the Beckley Little League / Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center area.  The display by Pyrotechnico is sponsored by the City of Beckley and Appalachian Power Company.  Beckley Little League is planning a color splash and home run derby before the show beginning at 6 pm.

Fridays in the Park summer concerts are held at Word Park on Neville Street from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, weather-permitting.  The July schedule begins with the musical group 2nd Time Around (11:30 am), followed up Theatre West Virginia previewing Hatfields & McCoys songs (12:45) on July 5.  The Academy of Creative Arts band camp students will perform on July 12.  A dance theme will be featured on July 19 with line dancers from the Mercer County and Raleigh County Commissions on Aging, followed by Beckley Area Shag Club dancers.

First Fridays at Five event has been added this summer at Word Park.  The July 5th event will feature music by Randy Gilkey (5:00 pm – 6:45 pm) and The Untrained Professionals (7:00-8:00 pm) and is co-sponsored by WOAY-TV. Vendors, artists and pop-up shops are welcome to set-up booths during the event – call 304-256-1776 to confirm a spot.

The Uptown Tailgate Farmers Market plans to open on Monday, July 8.  This summer’s market will be held on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays (except July 12) from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Parking Garage Plaza.  If you have extra produce and would like to be a market vendor, or for information, contact the WVU Extension office at 304-255-9321.

Relay for Life will be held on Friday, July 12 at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza on Neville Street from 6:00 pm to midnight.  The event is a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society.

The monthly Full Moon Group Walk and Bike Ride along the McManus Trail will happen on Tuesday, July 16, meeting at 8:00 pm at the 3rd Avenue lot.  Active SWV is also hosting a Get Psyched on Bikes event on the trail on July 17 at 6 pm. Youth can learn technical biking skills and make new biking buddies. Activities are for both beginner and experienced mountain bikers. Please RSVP (304-894-2129 or email if you are interested in using one of the mountain bikes provided by the group, or feel free to bring your own bike (reservations still requested). The July Walk with the Mayor is being planned for Friday, July 19.  A location in Ward 5 is to be determined.

The City of Beckley’s annual Cruise-in Car & Bike show will take place on Saturday, July 27.  The streets in uptown will be reserved for vehicle line-up beginning at 5:00 pm.  The first 90 show vehicle owners who register at Word Park between 5:00 and 6:00 pm will receive a dash plaque.  Vehicle registration is $10. Specialty awards by City departments, local organizations or others will be presented, along with door prizes. The Thomas Danley Band will perform at the gazebo between 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
