Saturday Kids Classic Festival Street Fair and Parade:
United Games Arcade – A popular hang-out during the festival, the games arcade spans the parking area at United Bank and along Fayette Street. With games and activities such as the dunking booth, money machine, fishing booth, Plinko, prize wheel, bounce house & more, the arcade is designed so that participants purchase tickets to play games (26 game ticket card = $6, or half card = $3). By playing games, children win tickets to redeem for prizes.
Proceeds from the arcade benefit local charities. The games are manned by volunteers, including bank employees, organizations, & students. Anyone wishing to volunteer or donate to the arcade should call 304-252-7262.
The arcade is open on Saturday, September 7 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. – the ticket booth closes at 1:30 p.m. United Bank has supported the festival and sponsored the arcade since the festival’s inception.
Street Fair Booths line Main & Heber Streets and Shoemaker Square during the Saturday Kids Fair from 10 am – 2 pm with such favorites as the Beckley Fire Department’s fire safety house, and Junior Firefighters’ Challenge Course. Various organizations and businesses set-up booths and offer games, information and/or food. Check out the new Sci-Fi / Fantasy Area at the Federal Plaza on Heber Street.
Parade – The Kids Classic Parade features numerous children’s characters, festival royalty, walking units, and floats. A special “Founders Trophy” (in honor of Madrith Chambers) will be awarded to the Best Parade Entry. The festival and parade theme for this year is What’s Your Story. Children’s characters, mascots, youth groups, 4-H clubs, FFA, scouts, sports teams, bands, cheerleaders, gymnasts, dancers, artists, musicians, academic and community service achievers are encouraged to enter the parade. School bands throughout Southern West Virginia are invited to participate, plus the Beni Kedem Bagpipe Band, sponsored by the Irish Heritage Fund. The Parade Grand Marshal will be Bobbi Harvey, local author of the children’s book The Princess and the Enchanted Spoon. Beckley’s Babe Ruth State Championship Team and Little League teams will also be honored. Antique & classic cars are invited to be in the parade.

Drum lines, cheer and dance teams, and youth performers may be featured after the parade in the Main Street area.
Saturday evening: Step up to the plate to play in this year’s Kids Classic home run derby on September 7. Open to age divisions from kids (8 & up) to adults, what a great way to wrap up a full day of Kids Classic activities than with an all-American home run derby! The derby entry fee is $5.00 per person with 1/2 off the fee going back to your age division so you have a chance to win cash money! Winners also receive a medal. The home run derby begins at 7:30 p.m. on September 7 at Beckley Little League fields.
The annual FIREWORKS display will be presented at 9:00 p.m. by Pyrotechnico in the Little League / Convention Center area.
Sunday – The Annual Kids Classic Hamster Races & Dazzling Dog Show will be held on Sunday, September 8th at the Youth Museum of Southern WV.
HAMSTER RACES – FREE to participate. Registration is from 12:45 pm to 1:15 pm. Races will start at 1:15 pm. You can bring your own hamster or we will provide one for you to race. Ages 3-12 years only please. We will have a free drawing to give away hamsters at the end of the races.
DAZZLING DOG SHOW – $5 PER PET. Registration is at 2:15 pm with judging starting at 2:30 pm. All dogs/puppies must be on a leash.
