Beckley Police Department

Sergeant David J. Bailey has been an accomplished member of the Beckley Police Department for the past 20 years.  As a native to the Beckley area, he was inspired from a young age to become a police officer that served not only as the protective force of the community, but also help the community through teamwork and service.

He is a graduate of Liberty High School and attended Southern WV Community College and Mountain State University where he obtained an associate/bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Organizational Leadership.  He started with the Beckley Police Department on October 1st, 2001 and was assigned to road patrol duties.  In April of 2007 he became a K-9 handler for several years partnering with K-9 Drake.  Sergeant Bailey and K-9 Drake assisted in everyday operations of the Department including patrol work, narcotic detection, public demonstrations, and various other work for the Department.

He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant on August 17, 2015 where he worked as a Patrol Supervisor on different shifts.  Sergeant Bailey worked as a Patrol Supervisor until he recently accepted the position as Beckley Police Departments Community Services Officer.  Sergeant Bailey and the Beckley Police Department believe that strong relationships of mutual trust between the community we serve are critical to maintaining public safety and effective policing.  Police officials rely on the cooperation of community members to provide information about crime in their neighborhoods, and to work with the police to devise solutions to crime and problems in the communities.
