What We Do:

  • Maintain 520 Streets (117 miles of roadway) Paving, Patching, Cutting Rights of way, Plowing, and salting streets
  • Street Sweeping (two sweepers) 400-500 tons of debris removed from streets annually
  • Install and maintain all street signs, markers, and street markings
  • Bi-weekly curb side recycling pickup (taking in 30+ tons annually) (cans, paper, cardboard, white goods-as scheduled)
  • Annual curb side spring household item cleanup
  • Annual curb side fall leaf & small limb cleanup
  • Annual curb side Christmas tree pick up
  • Maintain thirty-six traffic signal intersections
  • Own and maintain 379 street light fixtures (Including the 3.6 mile Lewis McManus Rails-To- Trail)
  • Two yearly audits of 2,279 street lights on the city tariff (We report to AEP for all repairs)
  • Maintain Forty-Three Parks, playgrounds, and green spaces (Including 27 acres in New River Park, pool, waterslide, and three shelters)
  • Provide new construction (Shoemaker Square, Word Park, Thornhill Courts, Freedom Skate Park, East Park Police Precinct, Greyhound Bus Station, Community of new sidewalks as needed.)
  • Demolition of 10-15 dilapidated structures a year (Five-member asbestos inspection & abatement crew)
  • Supply manpower for approximately twenty-five Beckley events each year.
