Information Technology Department
The City of Beckley Information Technology Services Department (BITS) is dedicated to guaranteeing that the City of Beckley is appropriately positioned to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by technology in the digital age. Our technicians ensure that the IT systems for each department in the city function properly and securely, and our IT administrators are constantly developing new solutions to the city’s IT needs.
We have undertaken various initiatives to upgrade the City of Beckley’s computing infrastructure to the latest and most efficient technology available to perform government duties. From citywide IP Telephony to mobile reporting solutions for the Police Department that enable officers to return to their tasks more quickly after an incident, our projects allow the various departments in the city to operate safely, securely, and efficiently.
BITS is equipped with the latest technology to better serve the City of Beckley. Our Training Room, equipped with 12 individual training machines, allows us to instruct city employees on the proper use of new software and computer systems. Our IT Library is well-stocked with hundreds of reference books covering subjects that span the entire spectrum of information technology.
Also located in the BITS office is the city’s primary data center, where racks of servers provide essential services across the city, linked by an extensive fiber optic cabling network. Here, BITS hosts websites, email, telephone systems, GIS servers, connections to the West Virginia State Police WEAPON system, and many other vital IT services.
