Mobile Data

In the past, police officers were required to leave their patrol areas in order to complete reports after responding to an incident. With the implementation of a new mobile reporting platform, officers are able to complete incident reports and quickly return to their duties while remaining in the field. As an added benefit, officers now have the ability to retrieve warrant, license, and registration information directly from their patrol vehicles, freeing 911 telecommunicators to focus on emergency calls.

Public Safety

The City of Beckley is proud to offer many recreational and other resources to our citizens and guests. In order to assure the safety of those who make use of our city parks, the Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum, the Intermodal Gateway Project, and the Rails to Trails walking trail, BITS works with the Beckley Police Department to install and monitor camera systems and emergency call boxes around these facilities. The Rails to Trails walking trail covers over 3 miles of former Raleigh County railroads, and is patrolled regularly by the Police Department. Many sections of the trail are covered by video surveillance, and a current project hopes to see near 100% coverage in the near future. The Beckley Intermodal Gateway will soon provide parking and transit access to its users, as well as a location for city events such as weekly flea markets. Over 30 cameras monitor the structure, and 6 emergency call boxes provide a direct connection to Raleigh County 911 if necessary.
